Atlanta is a big city with a several colleges and a hot, nationally recognized nightlife. However, the ability of college-aged patrons - those 18 and over - to partake of the city's night scene is severely limited. Nevertheless, a few bars and clubs have responded to the plight of the 18- to 20-year-old crowd and host events that cater to this niche market.
Opera Nightclub
Opera Nightclub (operaatlanta.com), selected as one of three finalists for "Nightclub & Bar" magazine's Nightclub of the Year award, hosts a college night once a week. The college night event has a different theme every week, such as Back to School, and is open to patrons 18 years and older. As Atlanta's top nightclub, Opera is home to DJs that spin some of the freshest dance and hip hop mixes in the city. The club enforces a strict dress code.
The Masquerade
The Masquerade (masqueradeatlanta.com) is a live music venue with a dance floor. The club hosts a weekly DJ-spun dance party that is open to patrons 18 and older. Unless otherwise indicated, all of the live shows at the Masquerade are open to all ages, though you must be at least 21 years old to order alcoholic beverages from the bar. Located in a century-old building that formerly housed a mill, the Masquerade has been one of Atlanta's premier venues since 1989.
The Jungle Club
The Jungle Club (jungleclubatlanta.com) has several entertainment options from which to choose. Live music and cabaret acts alternate with DJ events that pump contemporary dance music through the club's state of the art sound system. While its mission is to serve GLBT patrons, Jungle Club welcomes all customers 18 years of age and older. Each night the club is open, its owners present a different event, theme or contest to Jungle Club guests.
Wild Bill's
Wild Bill's (wildbillsatlanta.com) bills itself as the largest dance club and concert hall in the United States. Dedicated country and southern rock music, the club offers and alternating schedule of live acts and DJ-spun music. All of the clubs events are open to patrons at least 18 years of age, unless otherwise indicated. Themed events include Back-to-School bashes and line dancing parties, as well as a weekly specials for those who work in the service industry. Wild Bill's boasts a main room as well as the smaller Crown Lounge.
