Coach House - This tiny wooden house turned bar stands out in Scottsdale for being the antithesis of the city's usual swanky nightspots. Inside, the bar has low- pitched ceilings. Outside, a second bar serves the wraparound patio. While it's a small place, it's no dive. The bar opened in 1959 and has been a favorite for years. The Coach House is a must-visit during the holidays, when every inch of the bar is decorated in Christmas wrapping paper, lights, candy canes, ornaments and tinsel.

Dierks Bentley's Whiskey Row - This Old Town spot offers all the fun of a bar but with upscale dining Western-style. Try Alabama barbecue grilled chicken, flatiron steak or a whiskey burger. Daily drink specials include the Duke, a 32-ounce personal pitcher of domestic or imported beer; the Pickle Back, which is Jameson with housemade pickle juice as a chaser; and Low Life, which is PBR and a shot of moonshine. The house band Georgia Chrome performs on a stage suspended from the ceiling over the bar. VIP tables with beer and liquor taps and bottle service can be reserved.

Kazimierz World Wine Bar - It's a bit difficult to find this place if you haven't been yet. The entrance is tucked away from the main thoroughfare, where a sign above the door reads "The Truth is Inside." Inside is dark and cave-like, providing an intimate atmosphere to enjoy a glass of wine from the list of more than 3, 200 bottles. Live jazz and Latin music is scheduled regularly.

The Mint - This flashy 7, 000-square-foot restaurant and ultra lounge offers dark wood, marble, booth seating, a 20-foot bar and a coed bathroom in which cocktails are served. The whole space is a dance floor, and the sprawling outdoor patio features a surplus of seating for whenever the thumping DJ music inside becomes a bit too thumping. Vegas-style lighting, glamorous back-lit photos of models robbing banks and servers outfitted like sexy bankers complete the party-in-a-bank experience. An extensive wine and sake list is available.
Details: 7373 E. Camelback Road, Scottsdale 85251 480-947-6468
AZ88 - Walking up to the glowing glass cube of modernity that is AZ 88, spotting the conspicuously dressed people inside, marveling at the avant-garde art installation behind the bar, it's impossible to not be curious about what happens inside such a space. Downtown hipsters, creatives ducking out of the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art, ladies who lunch, the glitterati and pretty boys are fixtures at this minimalist bar and restaurant just off the grassy Scottsdale Civic Center Mall. The kitchen serves burgers, salads and sandwiches while the bar turns out classic cocktails and 10-ounce martinis so full that servers deliver the drinks with the grace and steadiness of gem-setters. It's a rare place where the food is as good as the guests are good-looking.
